Meet the Mets

Johan Santana, a two time Cy Young award winner with a career ERA under 3.20, now gets to pitch in an inferior league and to hitters that have rarely faced him.

That's just not fair.

A: Equity and credit markets aren't gonna take recession talk any more!

Simmer Down Now

From the Daily News, on last night's CNN debate:
  • Obama said Clinton was “a corporate lawyer sitting on the board at Wal-Mart” while he was fighting for working-class Americans in Illinois.
C'mon, Barack! Hillary was down in the trenches fighting the good fight to help poorer individuals enjoy Sam's Club every day low prices.

Corporate lawyers are people too.

Mediocre Accountants Needed

Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
Section 407(a), Rules Defining "Financial Expert"
  • The Commission shall issue rules...to require each issuer...to disclose whether or not...the audit committee of that issuer is comprised of at least 1 member who is a financial expert, as such term is defined by the Commission.
I don't know that much about the accounting profession. But, shouldn't every auditor of a large publicly traded corporation be a financial expert?

Don't Mind Me! Just Pandering to Evangelicals

Mike Huckabee on the confederate flag:

"The President ought not to be involving himself in a state issue that has not one thing to do with being President of the United States."

Mike Huckabee on abortion:

"This is the kind of geographic morality we fought against in the Civil War. If you believe in the sanctity of human life, it applies as much as in Arkansas as in Massachusetts."

Okay. Wow. Flags don't present a federal issue, but a woman's uterus does?

Besides the intellectual inconsistency here in Huck's selective federalism, the Pastor also manages to invoke the virtue of the Civil War to score points on a completely unrelated issue while staying above the flag fray, a Civil War issue. This doesn't even qualify as sophistry. It's pure campaignese gibberish.

All this in back-to-back questions of a single interview, where Shuckabee also preaches that 'full faith and credit' is a clause in the commerce act (?!?), on MSNBC with Scarborough/Brzenszki.

Happy New...whatever

Welcome back to your regularly scheduled program.

Between wandering around DC, vacationing in Eastern Europe, and taking finals, there hasn't been much down time in the last three weeks. But, I'm back in New Haven now with Girlfriend to work on the graduate-from-law-school thing. 11 credits and thesis, thy will be done...

Anyway, here are a few of my favorite shots from the Eastern Bloc and elsewhere:
