Psalm 40 Double Slant on 3:16

"We're Christian coaches. Doing it the Lord's way."
- Tony Dungy, in accepting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Um, what? I am sure Dungy is genuine here. I know (especially now that Mom has turned to the Church for strength) that faith is pervasive in a believer's life. But, conflating the goals of sport with the values of religion seems to me forced and inapt.

Though, I'm not a football player nor a Christian. So what do I know?

Usually I roll my eyes when I hear professional athletes thank the Lord for helping them make that 3-point shot, but I actually didn't mind Tony Dungy's remark. I took it as him saying that they lived their lives "the Lord's way" and didn't give in to the excesses of the NFL, and achieved success while maintaining their morals. I think that's something that can be worth pointing out, particularly in pro football and basketball where you always hear horror stories about players' private lives.

Yeah, the ballplayer who crosses himself before stepping into the batter's box is probably more who I was referring to here.

Though, you're right. Nine arrests on the Bengals this year? Wow. Just wow.

I try to correlate my conjunctions where possible.

"Nor" can be used with other negative expressions.
